This is an interesting idea. I'll try to research what can be done here.

Maybe consider first the lowest cost programmable logic boards-
something that hobbyists would use, ie: I just got a $30 MAXII kit off ebay.
Perhaps you could provide a bundle that works together and get this into the "MAKE" ecospace.
